Vowel Comparison in Tagalog and GAE
GAE has around 15 vowel phonemes, which may change based on dialect, whereas Tagalog only has five, all of which are present in GAE. These five include /a, ɛ, u, ɔ, i/.
Only short vowels exist in Tagalog (although extending vowel length is used as an indicator of stress placement in a word (AS DESCRIBED ON XXX PAGE)). Thus, L1 Tagalog learners of L2 English tend to not pronounce long vowels in English.
